What is in SinuGo
Turmeric
Turmeric is argued by many to be the most powerful herb on the planet at fighting and potentially reversing disease. It’s benefits are incredibly vast and very thoroughly researched; currently, there are over 10,000 peer-reviewed articles published proving turmeric benefits,
especially one of its renowned healing compounds, curcumin.
Since sinus infections are caused by nasal inflammation, and turmeric possesses anti-inflammatory properties, the spice can be an effective solution for sinus infection.
The active ingredient in turmeric, known as curcumin, helps to heal the sinus cavity and clear the airways.
We use WHOLE turmeric and not an extract of curcumin, as it has been found that unless the curcumin is combined with certain natural oils found the the plant, it’s pretty ineffective.
Ginger Extract
As one of the most used dietary condiments in the world today, it’s no wonder that the benefits of ginger are pretty impressive.
The health benefits of ginger are largely due to its antioxidants, anti-inflammatory properties and content of therapeutic compounds like gingerol, shogaol, paradol and zingerone.
Ginger boasts the ability to fight off bacterial infections as well. Pathogenic bacteria are common culprits behind conditions like urinary tract infections, pneumonia and bronchitis.
Zerumbone, an active ingredient in ginger, enhances the Th1 response and helps with Th2 allergic response.
Ginger helps with asthma by suppressing Th2-mediated immune response.
Ginger reduces smooth muscle contraction in the airway, aiding with chronic cough.
Cinnamon Extract
There are many benefits of cinnamon when it comes to defending the body from illnesses. Cinnamon is a natural anti-microbial, anti-biotic, anti-fungal and anti-viral agent, and is used in many cultures to naturally help fight harmful infections and viruses.
Cinnamon has protective abilities against various bacteria which can cause negative symptoms in the digestive tract, on the surface of the skin, and can lead to colds or the flu.
If this is not enough, cinnamon has been shown to be helpful in fighting common allergy symptoms because it reduces inflammation and fights histamine reactions in the body.
It’s anti-inflammatory quality is also particularly effective in treating headaches associated with colds and it may be used to soothe the membranes that line your sinuses and allow you to breathe easier.
Mustard Seed
Mustard is a versatile cruciferous vegetable which belongs to the Brassica family just like broccoli and cabbage.
The mustard plant brings an entire gamut of helpful constituents through its various edible parts. Mustard seeds are a rich source of minerals such as calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, and potassium. Along with this, it is a good source of dietary folate and vitamins.
Mustard seeds have been valued for their therapeutic effects in curing cold and sinus problems. It is a wonderful decongestant and expectorant which helps in clearing the mucus in the air passage. Since ages, different home remedies have involved the usage of mustard
seeds for treating a range of sinus related ailments.
The seeds have also been found effective in curing chronic bronchitis.
Bromelain
This fascinating compound found in the core of the humble pine apple, has traditionally been used as a potent anti-inflammatory and anti-swelling agent.
Although this was not part of the original formula grandpa used, we added this because of the powerful effect bromelain has on fighting inflammation in the sinus.
The journal Evidenced-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine highlighted the results of a study that investigated how bromelain affected mice suffering from asthma. The study produced some interesting results — for example, that bromelain reduces allergic
sensitisation and stops development of other inflammatory responses affecting the airways.
These findings suggests that this enzyme helps modulate the entire immune system. It can actually help prevent allergies by addressing the root cause — a hyperactive, oversensitive immune system. It was observed in the study that CD11c (+) dendritic cells and DC44
antigen-presenting cells were kept at bay when supplementing with bromelain, a sign that this enzyme is capable of targeting the underlying cause of asthma and allergies. This is why it helps most people suffering from symptoms like a stuffy/runny nose, itchy eyes,
swollen lymph nodes, congestion and trouble breathing.
Bromelain helps prevent or treat sinus infections (Rhinosinusitis)
Researchers at the University of Cologne in Germany took 12 patients who had already had sinus surgery and treated them with bromelain for three months. They discovered the following bromelain benefits: Total symptom scores improved, total rhinoscopy scores improved,
overall quality of life was enhanced and there were no adverse effects reported.
Quercetin
Quercetin is a natural antihistamine and an anti-inflammatory, making it effective for naturally lowering the effects of season and food allergies, plus asthma and skin reactions. Histamines are chemicals that are released when the immune system detects an allergy or
sensitivity, and they are what account for uncomfortable symptoms we face whenever the body has an allergic reaction.
Quercetin can help stabilise the release of histamines from certain immune cells, which results in decreased symptoms like coughs, watery eyes, runny noses, hives, swollen lips or tongue, and indigestion.
